For the second time this season, fifth-year quarterback Ashton Daniels was named the the ACC Quarterback of the Week on Monday as part of the league’s weekly awards.
Daniels, from Buford, Ga., accounted for five touchdowns in the Seminoles’ 43-35 double-overtime loss at No. 3 Miami on Saturday. He matched a career-high with four passing touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown, his 11th of the season to extend his FSU record for rushing touchdowns in a season by a quarterback.
Daniels ranks third nationally with 23 touchdowns accounted for and is the only player with 11 passing and 11 rushing touchdowns. He has accounted for multiple touchdowns in all seven of his games as a Seminole, including a pair of five-touchdown games against Miami and Virginia, setting the FSU record with five rushing touchdowns in a game in the latter.
At Miami, Daniels completed 15 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns with 31 rushing yards and one rushing score. His final two touchdown passes went to Duce Robinson, including a 75-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Daniels, who had an 81-yard touchdown run against Virginia, is the only player in the country with a 70-yard pass and 70-yard rush this season.
Entering the game, Miami ranked No. 1 nationally in scoring defense with 9.8 points allowed per game and No. 5 in total defense with 249.6 yards per game allowed. Daniels’ four passing touchdowns were more than the Hurricanes had allowed in their first five games combined (3).
Daniels previously was named ACC Quarterback of the Week for his record-setting game against Virginia. The last Seminole to win ACC Quarterback of the Week multiple times in a season was Jordan Travis in 2023.
After an open weekend, Florida State will be back in action on October 31 at 7:00 p.m. against Clemson in Doak Campbell Stadium.
