Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday struck out the eight-count criminal charges the Federal Government brought against Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged fake Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The judge terminated the trial at the request of the Federal Government, which said Adeyemi would be moved to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for fresh arraignment.
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, moved the application.
He told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice reviewed the case file and the charge filed by the Inspector-General of Police and found some loopholes.
Among other things, Oyedepo said the documents Adeyemi allegedly forged in the course of running the purported agency are offenses that can be prosecuted by the FCT High Court, not the Federal High Court.
He said a new charge had been filed at the FCT High Court and that Adeyemi would be arraigned afresh expeditiously. He urged the judge to strike out the charge as required by law.
There was no objection from Adeyemi’s counsel, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, and Justice Umar struck out the charge accordingly.
Adeyemi, 38, was being tried alongside two others, identified as Femi (surname unknown) and Anu (surname unknown), whose whereabouts are unknown. They were charged with conspiracy and forgery.
The charge, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025, was filed against the defendants by the DPPF.
