7 Airlines With Some Of The World's Most Luxurious Business Class Seats

Modern business class is all about the wider experience. Airlines get carried away with lounges, priority security and boarding, high-end dining, and more. However, when all is said and done, the seat itself remains the hinge of a business class experience.

The seven carriers listed below have earned a reputation for their business class seats. These lie-flat chairs have enormous dimensions and are exceedingly comfortable. However, with lie-flat capabilities being the standard for premium widebody flying, that is no longer enough. In this article, we will examine what makes these carriers' seats and business class products so strong.

7 Lufthansa: Allegris

The German flag carrier offers unprecedented business class seat variety

Most business class products are one-size-fits-all. Lufthansa challenges this trend by giving passengers seven different seat types to choose from. Each has a different square footage and functional features, allowing you to go for the option most suited to your needs as a traveler.

It should be noted that, although it is the most important aspect, a great business class seat does not guarantee a leading experience. The table below details the rankings for Skytrax's overall business class and business class seat awards, with notable divergences between the two.

Examples of the variety include extra-long beds, extra-space seats, double seats, privacy seats with room for a baby, and front-row suites. Allegris also has plenty of conventional business class seats for travelers who want a classic premium experience. However, the variety has been criticized as Lufthansa charges high surcharges to select the most in-demand varieties.

6 Air France: Nouvelle Business Class

The French flag carrier combines excellent suite hardware with leading gastronomy

The strongest French business class suites can be found on Air France's Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. These planes have suites with sliding doors, giving passengers great privacy, along with a reverse herringbone layout. Aboard Air France's Airbus A350s, passengers can enjoy bespoke seats designed and constructed by Stelia Opera, along with privacy doors and an induction charging station.

The designer writes that "Opera Essential not only redefines passenger experience with patented self-reliant kinetic but also meets the strict criteria for a greener aviation industry. This revolutionary seat brings more than just style and sustainability to the table." The seat is 30% lighter than its competitors, with a 32% lower environmental impact.

Stelia Opera also bucks trends by making seat adjustment manual. Passengers will find it far more intuitive than the fiddly touchscreens of many business class seats to find their ideal position.

5 All Nippon Airways: The Room/The Room FX

The sofa-style design gives passengers massive seat width

ANA's The Room is known for its exceptionally wide seat, closer to a small sofa than a chair. The suites are arranged in alternate forward and rear-facing rows, giving passengers privacy and comfort. However, The Room has been let down by a short 72-inch (183 centimeters) bed length. This is too short for tall passengers to stretch out fully. ANA launched The Room on select Boeing 777-300ERs in 2019.

In 2025, it announced new cabins named The Room FX, with FX standing for 'Future eXperience.' These were officially revealed in January 2026. Although based on the Safran Fusio seat used in The Room, the new product offers a number of improvements. The bed length extends to 76.5 inches (194 centimeters). USB-C and wireless charging will also be available.

These suites will start to be rolled out across ANA's Boeing 787-9 fleet in November 2026. The unveiling of The Room FX at the Paris Air Show 2025 is detailed in the Instagram post embedded above. As the 787 is a narrower aircraft than the 777-300ER, the seats will also be narrower.

They will also have no reclining feature, with the seats being pre-reclined. There will be no electric motors. Instead, passengers can flip the legrest to convert it into a bed. Readers who have flown onboard Finnair's AirLounge business class will have experienced this before.

4 Emirates: Retrofitted Boeing 777 Business Class

The staggered layout creates footwell space and freedom of movement

Emirates has retrofitted a good number of its Boeing 777s to provide passengers with a leading business class seat. The development is based on the 'Game Changer' design philosophy, which is known for light and airy cabins and suites made with soft leather and polished wood finishes.

Emirates has created a welcoming and intimate atmosphere in a business class cabin that is far more cramped than its A380s. However, it has still found space for the 1-2-1 layout, giving each passenger direct aisle access that has become expected for all premium airlines.

The airline has also released a company video with a sneak peek revealing what the suites will look like aboard its Boeing 777X business class, which could be available as early as 2027. The suites are in a staggered 1-2-1 layout, and the removal of overhead bins makes the whole cabin seem far more open. Another interesting addition is a counter-style drinks area with seating for eight.

3 Cathay Pacific: Aria Suite

Hong Kong's national airline sets the standard for business class comfort

Passengers who've flown aboard Cathay Pacific's Aria suite will know it offers sliding doors, better storage and a 24-inch (61 cm) 4K entertainment screen. The seat has 43 inches (109 cm) of pitch when upright and stretches to 79 inches (200 cm) in its lie-flat state. Its width is 21 inches (53 cm) at the armrest, growing to around 25 inches (64 cm) at the shoulders.

The bed gets even more spacious when you adjust the leather aisle-side armrest downwards so that it becomes part of the bed surface. Cathay Pacific has built its seat around convenient customization. The seat-control interface is Red Dot Design Award-winning. You can customize with incredible complexity to find the perfect position, or choose from three excellent presets: Relax, Work, and Sleep.

You can also use the screen to check when lavatories are available, stopping you from having to queue up. Sliding doors are available on the Aria Suite, but that isn't the only way Cathay Pacific gives you privacy. The wrap-around seat design means you can get privacy from other passengers even when your door is open.

2 Singapore Airlines: New-Generation Business Class

The world's widest business class suites

Singapore Airlines has designed its latest business class product in collaboration with James Park Associates, the firm responsible for the Orient Express. With a seat width of 30 inches (76 cm), it is the widest major business class product. Singapore Airlines claims that the seat is 50% wider than the standard for the class. The bed is also exceptionally long in a lie-flat configuration at 76 inches (193 cm).

The carrier also points towards the seat's recline and ottoman features that help customers to reach the optimum comfortable position. Singapore Airlines' seat is finished with a mocha and camel color scheme. The back shell extends around the sides to enhance passenger privacy. The suite can convert into a traveling office with a height-adjustable table, reading lights, USB ports, and a laptop power supply.

It is not only a comfortable and large seat that allows Singapore business class passengers to get a great night's sleep while onboard. A number of sleep-aid amenities are included, including foot sockettes, eye shades, Givenchy-designed padded blankets, and soft earplugs. Summarizing the entire experience, the carrier says that:

"A stylish combination of enhanced personal space, functionality and leading-edge innovation, the new Singapore Airlines Business Class detracts from the norm. These, combined with the Airline’s trademark Asian hospitality and world-renowned service, help rejuvenate even the most jaded business traveller."

1 Qatar Airways: Qsuite

Skytrax World's Best Business Class defending titleholder

QatarAirways has long been considered the best business class airline in the world. In the Skytrax World's Best Business Class awards for 2026, it came first in the overall category, as well as the sub-categories for seats. Its flagship business class seat is known as Qsuite.

The seat shows that dimensions alone are not everything. With a width of 21.5 inches (55 cm), Qsuite seats are narrower than both ANA and Singapore Airlines. Qatar Airways uses this extra space to create a superb holistic suite experience. It includes high partitions and a strong sliding door to create a private cocoon in the sky.

The Qsuite seats are also strong due to their reconfigurability. Passengers can make use of the Quad layout, converting Qsuite into a central block of four suites. This layout is perfect for traveling business executives, who can work together before putting the dividers up to sleep.

It also suits groups of friends, allowing them to socialize during the flight. Double suites are also available for couples. The Qsuite seat itself has also been manufactured to provide the ultimate in luxury and comfort. Bespoke stitching, leather headrests, and more make customers feel like royalty.
