The Osun State Police Command on Wednesday said its operatives have arrested a 45-year-old man, Mukaila Adeyemo, for defiling a minor in Ikire town.
In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the command said the suspect perpetrated the act on two occasions, despite the victim being the granddaughter of a woman identified as a friend of Adeyemo.
Ojelabi explained that Adeyemo first raped the victim in September after luring her to his house under the pretence that he wanted her to help him buy some items.
The PPRO also said that on October 2, the victim’s birthday, the suspect lured the minor to his workshop located in the Ilupeju area of Ikire, from where he took her to a nearby bush and defiled her.
The statement read, “The suspect, one Adeyemo Mukaila, is a friend to the victim’s grandmother and often visits her at home, as the victim stays with her grandmother. Sometime in September 2026, the suspect called the victim to come and get him some items, and when she got to his house, he dragged her inside his room, removed her pants and had carnal knowledge of her.
“Furthermore, on 2nd October, being the victim’s birthday, the victim gladly informed him of her birthday and asked for a birthday gift from him. The suspect gave her one thousand naira (N1,000), and at the same time demanded a gift from her; in turn, she went to buy him some biscuits and took them to him in his workshop around Ilupeju area of Ikire.
“The suspect then dragged her into the nearby bush and had carnal knowledge of her. When he noticed that people had already seen them, he took to his heels into the bush. The passersby met the victim and asked her what he did to her, which she explained to them before they went after the suspect, arrested him and handed him over to the police.”
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements around them to the police to prevent criminal activities.
“The Command wishes to encourage members of the public, especially parents, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest police station or through established police emergency channels,” Ojelabi said.
The PUNCH earlier reported that the Oyo State Police Command said it had arrested a 17-year-old male, Usman Dauda, for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl in Saki.
A statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, explained that the operational breakthrough followed a distress report lodged at the Saki Divisional Station on September 17, 2026, around 6 pm, after the child went missing.
Ayanlade explained that a localised search subsequently led to her recovery along the roadside in a state of distress, where preliminary enquiries revealed that the suspect had forcefully taken her into his apartment to commit the heinous act. C
