Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi on Saturday ordered a special general hold-up operation at the city’s entry and exit points to ensure road safety and curb smog caused by heavy vehicles.
Under the operation, heavy vehicles were being thoroughly inspected, while no vehicle is being allowed to enter the city without a valid driving license, the CTO said.
He added that deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) were personally supervising the checking at entry and exit points to prevent traffic accidents and help control smog.
Fitness certificates and driving licenses of heavy vehicles were being scrutinized while strict action has been ordered against overloaded vehicles and those exceeding prescribed dimensions. The CTO said vehicles without functional tail lights or reflectors would not be allowed to enter the city.
Vehicles emitting excessive smoke or posing serious safety risks would also be barred from entry.
He further directed that trailers carrying soil or sand without proper tarpaulin covers would not be permitted to enter the city.
