ⓘ VirtualDJ
VirtualDJ has added Apple Music integration in its latest update, giving DJs access to another massive streaming catalog directly from their mixing software. The new feature makes finding and playing tracks easier, although restrictions on stem separation and offline playback mean that Apple's music library comes with a few strings attached.
VirtualDJ’s build 9729, released on October 22, 2026 brings Apple's streaming catalog into the popular DJ software, potentially making music discovery and playlist preparation considerably easier. According to the official VirtualDJ changelog, Apple Music integration is the main addition in this release. Users can sign in with their Apple ID, browse playlists, liked albums, and recommendations, search for tracks, and load them directly onto the virtual decks. An active Apple Music or Apple One subscription is required.
For DJs, the advantages are obvious. Preparing a set often involves searching through hundreds of tracks, experimenting with combinations, and discovering that the perfect song is missing from the collection. Having another streaming catalog available could make that process considerably less frustrating.
However, there's a catch, and it's a fairly significant one. According to the official VirtualDJ user manual, Apple Music tracks cannot be used with stem separation, meaning DJs won't be able to isolate vocals, drums, or instruments for live mashups. Offline caching is also unavailable, so an internet connection remains necessary at all time during the mix. Not exactly reassuring when the club's Wi-Fi has a mind of its own.
The integration nevertheless adds another useful option for subscribers, particularly when exploring unfamiliar music or handling unexpected requests.
