Thousands of homes in Aberdeen lost power after a blaze at a substation.
Fire crews were called to Deemount Gardens in Ferryhill after a fault caused a “small fire” in the building at around 5am on Wednesday.
Local engineers were also dispatched to the substation after a fault in a piece of equipment triggered safety equipment, which automatically cut power to around 3,000 nearby homes.
Engineers restored power to about 1,500 properties within minutes of the incident. Power to the remaining properties was restored by 7am.
Workers from SSEN remain on site to carry out repairs.
A spokesperson said: “We’d like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding earlier this morning as our engineers worked hard to restore supplies following a fault at our Ferryhill substation.
“On the rare occasions there is a fault, our priority is to get the power back on as quickly and as safely as possible, which we did on this occasion in around two hours.
“With the power safely restored and all onsite checks complete, our engineers will remain on site during the day to carry out repairs.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 5.06am on Wednesday, October 21 to reports of a fire affecting an electrical substation on Deemount Gardens, Aberdeen.
“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where firefighters extinguished the fire.
“Crews left the scene at 5.56am, ensuring the area was made safe.
“There were no reported casualties.”
