The Brewers have already secured their place in the championship series after sweeping the two-time defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers 4-0 in the National League Championship Series (NLCS). Meanwhile, the Guardians and Rays are battling for the American League’s representative spot, with both teams carrying their own historic ambitions into the postseason.

Brewers and Rays chase first World Series title
Milwaukee and Tampa Bay have something significant in common: neither franchise has ever won a World Series championship.
The Brewers are heading to the Fall Classic for the first time in 44 years, giving the franchise another opportunity to capture its first title. Their dominant performance against Los Angeles has put them in a strong position heading into the final stage of the postseason.
The Rays, meanwhile, are looking to reach the World Series and finally secure the championship that has eluded them throughout their franchise history. Should either team win it all, they would claim the first World Series title in franchise history.
Cleveland has a different kind of history to pursue. The Guardians have won two World Series championships, with their titles coming in 1920 and 1948. However, the franchise has endured a lengthy championship drought, meaning a victory in 2026 would end a wait of 78 years.

Brewers make history with Dodgers sweep

Regardless of their eventual opponent, Milwaukee has already secured a place in the MLB record books.
The Brewers became the first team in MLB history to sweep an opponent in a best-of-seven postseason series after being swept by that same team in the previous year’s best-of-seven series. After the Dodgers eliminated Milwaukee in the 2025 NLCS, the Brewers returned the favor in 2026.
Milwaukee also became just the third team in MLB postseason history to sweep a 100-win opponent, joining the 2004 Boston Red Sox and the 1999 New York Yankees.
Meanwhile, Cleveland holds a 2-1 lead over Tampa Bay in the ALCS after Thursday’s 3-2 victory. Game 4 is scheduled for Friday in Cleveland.
With history on the line for all three franchises, the 2026 World Series promises a memorable conclusion to the MLB season.
