Imphal, Oct 16: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has assured the Maram Students’ Union (MSU) that its demands concerning education, sports infrastructure and community facilities will be examined and addressed on a priority basis.
The assurance came during a meeting between the Chief Minister and an MSU delegation led by its president, Ngouning Mathew, at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Babupara on Friday.
During the meeting, the delegation raised several issues concerning educational opportunities and infrastructure development for the Maram community.
A key demand was the inclusion of the Maram language in the school curriculum for Classes 11 and 12, extending its existing coverage up to Class 10. The delegation also sought further development of Don Bosco College, Maram, to improve educational facilities for students.
The students’ body also called for the construction of a dedicated sports complex at Maram to promote sports and provide better facilities for young people in the area.
Another issue raised was the need to expedite the ongoing construction of the Tribal Guest House in Imphal. The facility is expected to serve members of tribal communities, including students, who travel to the state capital.
The delegation stressed the importance of timely action on the proposals to address the educational and infrastructure needs of the Maram community.
Responding to the demands, Khemchand assured the delegation that the matters raised would be examined and addressed on a priority basis.
