A remote-controlled humanoid robot painted to resemble Iron Man was allegedly used to sexually assault a teen girl in Germany, the New York Post reported.
The robot grabbed the behind of the 16-year-old and “made thrusting motions against her,” Cologne police alleged in a statement. They added the robot’s owner, 16, along with a 19-year-old friend, allegedly filmed the incident and livestreamed it on social media, while adding graphic commentary.
The girl was outside a fast food outlet with some friends shortly after midnight when the robot approached her. After the alleged assault, the girl called police, who found the robot in the trunk of a Volkswagen shortly thereafter.
Authorities seized the robot and two phones belonging to the suspects. The suspects are now under investigation.
Sex assaults in Cologne
Cologne has become globally notorious for sex assaults, following hundreds of girls and women coming forward with reports of assault in the city on New Year’s Eve 2015-16. Victims described gangs of men outside the city’s main station carrying out dozens of attacks as police sat idly by. Correspondents described the attackers as North African or Arab in appearance.
One victim told the BBC she and her friends were surrounded by 20 to 30 men who were speaking a foreign language.
“They grabbed our arms… pushed our clothes away, and tried to get between our legs, or I don’t know where,” she said. “They got everything we had in our pockets.”
Another victim described her assault to German television: “All of a sudden these men around us began groping us,” she said. “They touched our behinds and grabbed between our legs. They touched us everywhere. So my girlfriend wanted to get out of the crowd. When I turned around one guy grabbed my bag and ripped it off my body.
“I thought to myself that if we stay here in this crowd they could kill us, they could rape us and nobody would notice. I thought we simply had to accept it. There was no one around us who helped or was in a position to help. All I wanted was to get out. I was scared that I wouldn’t leave this crowd alive. I was scared that if someone showed up with a knife I could be raped in the middle of the street.”
