The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos state chairman of the party, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, have called for reconciliation of aggrieved party members in the state.
The party chieftains stressed the need for the party to go into 2027 general elections as united party and also strengthen their relationship with the grassroots.
They spoke at the ongoing Lagos APC Campaign Council retreat held at Eko Hotels Lagos on Monday titled: “The Road to the Ballot, One Team, One Strategy.”
Yilwatda warned that the party should not suffer the defeat it experienced in Lagos state in 2023 presidential election again.
He appealed to people of the state to vote en masse for President Bola Tinubu to appreciate him for the good work he had started in the country.
He also appealed to all members of the party, who were aggrieved because they were denied of one position or the other, to put their grievances behind them and work for the success of the party.
He admitted that APC was the biggest party in Nigeria as at today, arguing that the only way its numerical strength could be translated to success was when its members were united.
“What is the value of a great party and members not united, what is the value of great structures but are pulling themselves down? Numbers don’t matter when you don’t have united front.”
The National Chairman also charged all political appointees to be committed to working for the party’s success.
He said excuses given by some political appointees that they were technocrat were no longer tenable.
“Some claim we are technocrat. The appointment is not technocrat appointment. If you don’t want to be a politician don’t take up political appointment.
“The theme: “Road to the ballot” is important. it is a responsibility and a commitment, to have collective victory. We can’t move in scattered line and we expect victory.
“Every leader, every appointee is to work for the bigger responsibility to win election. Lagos has the highest number of voters.
Lagos is very important to us; if we win Lagos we almost won Nigeria.
We must win Lagos, this is a must do for us, we must deepen our relationship with the grassroots, we must be connected to the people.”
The National Chairman further said, “We don’t want to lose Lagos again. With seven million registered voters, if we win Lagos, we have won Nigeria. In 2027, we must deliver Lagos for the APC, and all our candidates must be worked for to win at the polls.
“All hands must be on deck for reconciliation. The anger must not be taken to the polls. I urge the Campaign Director-General to embrace every interest in the party,” Yilwatda said.
Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, appealed to aggrieved party members not to lose hope, assuring that there would be another opportunity for them.
He also appealed to those who felt offended to forgive him, just as he promised to double his efforts in ensuring there was unity in the party.
