KUALA LUMPUR: Police have crippled an organised crime group known as Geng Suria, which was active in armed robberies across Kedah, following a special operation last month.
Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar S Muthuvelu said the integrated operation, conducted in collaboration with the Kedah police contingent's Criminal Investigation Department, was carried out in Kedah and Perak from Sept 24 to 27.
He said the group was led by a 30-year-old man and had nine members aged between 28 and 52.
"The group has been active since early 2024. Geng Suria has been linked to 20 property and violent crime cases involving armed gang robberies that caused injuries in Kedah.
"Police arrested six suspects aged between 28 and 39. All are being detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA) until Oct 25, 2026," he said in a statement today.
The remaining three members are being held at Sungai Buloh Prison, Pokok Sena Prison and Sungai Petani Prison over various other criminal offences, he said.
Elaborating on the group's modus operandi, M Kumar said Geng Suria often targeted foreigners' homes, business premises and residential properties identified by its leader.
"During the robberies, group members used dangerous weapons such as knives and machetes and did not hesitate to injure victims to carry out their criminal activities.
"Their aggressive and violent actions caused fear and trauma among victims, some of whom sustained serious injuries in the attacks," he said.
He said the stolen goods were subsequently sold, with the proceeds distributed by the group leader according to each member's role.
"During the raids, police seized six mobile phones of various brands and 189 ecstasy pills weighing an estimated 101.12g.
"The drug seizure is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Checks also found that several suspects had previous records involving vehicle theft, housebreaking, drugs and gang robbery," he said.
M Kumar said police reports received since 2024 indicated that Geng Suria's activities had caused losses amounting to hundreds of thousands of ringgit, while creating fear and threatening victims' safety.
He said the Attorney-General's Chambers had agreed to charge all nine alleged group members under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code for being members of an organised criminal group.
"The 9 Geng Suria members will be charged tomorrow, Oct 22, 2026, at the Sungai Petani Sessions Court in Kedah," he said.
