Aston Martin-designed Hudson Valley home on 55 acres lists for $19.5m

David Ingram, a wellness guru and entrepreneur, has listed his New York residence for $19.5 million, according to a report by Mansion Global. The Toronto-based founder of Sweat and Tonic’s Hudson Valley home is one of only two standalone houses in the world designed by Aston Martin and its partners.

Ingram bought the property in 2020, when the house existed only as renderings. He reworked the design, upgrading and expanding the original plans. It took him about five years to build the house. The estate sits in Red Hook, a village in Dutchess County, about two hours from Manhattan and roughly ten minutes from Rhinebeck.

A unique home designed by Aston Martin

Ingram, 60, has been drawn to Aston Martin ever since he saw the classic grey DB5 in the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger. He currently drives a grey DB12, but he still hopes to own an original DB5.

This house, therefore, was designed to suit someone who drives an Aston Martin.

“It’s the car I’ve always dreamt about and loved the most,” he told the outlet. “Everything about the design and the coolness and association with the brand franchise and its evolution of cars has made the whole thing more fascinating and enjoyable. It’s the kind of house and lifestyle that someone who drives an Aston Martin would live in.”

The main residence was designed by Hudson Valley-based S3 Architecture in partnership with Aston Martin’s design studio, Lair. The builders had to work around a rock ledge. This feature helps the home fit into the landscape. A dark metal roof and a façade of blackened cedar keep the building low and understated. The floor-to-ceiling glass brings the beauty of the outdoors inside.

A 2,000-foot gated driveway leads to the house, passing old trees, rocky areas and historic stone walls.

“The house is spectacular—it’s a piece of art on 55 bucolic acres,” said Jason Karadus of Corcoran Country Living, who listed the house earlier this month, according to the outlet. “It’s one of the highest-priced listings in the history of the Hudson Valley.”

Inside the car-themed rooms

The main house spans 7,773 square feet, with four bedrooms, five full bathrooms and two half-baths. The primary suite is cantilevered over the landscape and looks out towards the Catskills.

Ingram says that, from the bedroom, you can see past the trees to the mountaintops and the deer that sometimes wander through.

“When designing, we always let the land speak first and respond to it. The roofline mimics the jagged edges of the rock ledge reaching down into the earth, as if the home is born of and launching through the landscape,” architecture partner Christopher Dierig said in a statement to the outlet.

For the love of cars, the house also has a glass-enclosed automotive gallery underground, with room to display three collector cars.

“We wanted the owner and their guests to experience the three-dimensional feel of the house in an organic way, just like you experience one of our cars; there is no single façade that dominates,” said Cathal Loughnane, former head of Aston Martin Partnerships, in a statement.

Ingram also agrees that the house never disappoints. “The room I enjoy the most is the one you see as you come around the corner at the end of the drive; it just sticks out so it’s present and so authoritative that you feel like this home was built for that particular vantage point,” he said.Ingram also added an office suite, a cinema, a lounge and a wine storage room to the house.

The grounds also offer plenty of room to spread out. A 50-foot pool sits beside the living and dining areas and a fully equipped outdoor kitchen. There is also a tennis court, an architect-designed treehouse, a spring-fed pond, a vegetable garden and trails for walking and ATV riding. Three one-bedroom pods sit down a path, out of sight of the main house.

They can serve any purpose, from guest rooms and offices to spaces for homeschooling.Ingram says the decision to sell came down to time. Sweat and Tonic has grown quickly. He has opened three more wellness centres in Toronto and one in West Hollywood, branded Silver Springs, with more planned. As a result, he rarely makes it to the Hudson Valley. Leaving the house empty is a waste of resources. “I’ve really enjoyed every moment of it. I want to give it to someone else brand new while it’s still in perfect condition so they can enjoy it the way I would if I were going to live there,” he told the outlet.
