Prime Video on Wednesday unveiled the official trailer for the third season of its epic fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The story is moving towards the forging of the One Ring as Sauron’s grip on Middle-earth tightens.
“All of it has come to this,” Galadriel says in the trailer, which depicts the escalating conflict between the peoples of Middle-earth and Sauron's army of Orcs.
The upcoming season will see Sauron’s terrifying Ring-servants, the Nazgnagôl, roam Middle-earth in black armour as the Elves struggle to hold the front lines, tensions mount among the Dwarves of Khazad-dûm and political divisions push the island kingdom of Númenor towards civil war.
In the eastern lands of Rhûn, Gandalf draws on his magic and powers of persuasion in an attempt to turn the tide against the approaching darkness.
The first four episodes of the eight-episode third season will premiere on November 11. Episodes 5 and 6 will be available to stream on November 18, while the final two episodes will be released on November 25.
Set five years after the fall of Eregion, the new season finds Middle-earth engulfed in war, with Sauron’s armies conquering territories across the world.
Only a few strongholds remain between the Dark Lord and total victory, including Khazad-dûm, where the Dwarves are sealed within their mountain halls, and the Elven realms of Lindon and Rivendell, protected by their Three Rings.
Meanwhile, Sauron works from his newly completed tower of Barad-dûr in Mordor, seeking to harness the power of the One Ring to defeat his remaining enemies and establish his domination over all life.
The free peoples of Middle-earth, including Dwarves, Elves, Men and Wizards, must unite to prevent Sauron from achieving his goal.
The third season is produced by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.
The executive producers also include Lindsey Weber, Kate Hazell, Justin Doble and Charlotte Brändström, who also serves as a director. Matthew Penry-Davey is the producer, while Ally O’Leary Cantrell, Tim Keene and Andrew Lee are co-producers.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, bringing to the screen the legends of Middle-earth’s Second Age.
The series follows an ensemble cast of familiar and new characters as they confront the return of evil, with the story spanning the Elven capital of Lindon, the Misty Mountains, the island kingdom of Númenor and other lands of Middle-earth.
