Caleb Williams calls out Richard Sherman for doubting Bears after big Patriots win appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Caleb Williams wants respect for the Chicago Bears, and even when the team gets it, he is apparently not satisfied. Some consider such a mindset to be the mark of a warrior. Others may just call it confusing. Although the star quarterback was definitely on the same wavelength with his offense during Thursday night’s 30-24 home win over the New England Patriots, there might have been a slight disconnect between him and Seattle Seahawks legend and Amazon Prime Video NFL analyst Richard Sherman.
Before the Week 7 slate, the Super Bowl 48 champion and three-time First-Team All-Pro unveiled his current top-five NFL squads on his podcast, just like he always does. Sherman predicted the Bears would beat the Pats, and in doing so, he decided to award Chicago the No. 5 slot in his rankings. Williams apparently watched, but his postgame interaction with the retired cornerback indicates that he may not have seen the entire segment.
“Hopefully, we can get in your top-five,” Williams told Sherman, per The 33rd team’s Ari Meirov, after completing 22-of-33 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns. “I see it all.”

If the comment was intended to be taken as a dig, Sherman certainly did not receive it that way. The Stanford graduate was giddy after discovering that Williams watches his namesake podcast and did not even feel the need to correct Williams. Perhaps there was no misunderstanding at all, and the former No. 1 overall pick merely wants Chicago to advance past being a borderline top-five pick and ascend to front-runner status.
The Bears still have some improvements to make before reaching that benchmark, however.

Despite proving to be effective on both sides of the ball during the 2026 campaign, Ben Johnson’s team was a bit spotty against the Patriots. The defense did stumble at times, including on a stunning Rhamondre Stevenson 48-yard touchdown at the end of the first half. Chicago also committed nine penalties for 69 yards. Fortunately for the NFC North squad, New England was worse in both of those areas.
Caleb Williams and the Bears deserve credit for forcing some of the Patriots’ mistakes. They also posted a zero in the turnover department and won the time of possession battle (32:24 to 27:36). If No. 18 can continue to compete at a difference-making level, this group could surpass the Minnesota Vikings in the divisional standings and in Richard Sherman’s top-five.
At the very least, Chicago (5-2) would likely retain its spot in the rankings with a road win versus the reigning Super Bowl champion Seahawks (3-3) in Week 8.
