By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Belize’s tourism industry had a tough summer, and the numbers now confirm it.
Newly posted figures on the Belize Tourism Board’s performance dashboard show overnight tourist arrivals fell by 8.4 percent between June and September 2026 compared to the same period last year.
That represents a loss of more than 12,400 visitors.
The decline was felt in every one of the four months, with August seeing the sharpest drop at nearly 13 percent.
Speaking to 7 News at the Routes World trade show in Germany, Director of Tourism Evan Tillett said the industry is facing very challenging times.
He pointed to the World Tourism Organization cutting its global growth forecast from 3 to 4 percent at the start of the year to just 1 to 2 percent.
Tillett said the BTB is seeing positive signs for the high season and expects some catching up, but believes overall arrivals for the year will end close to last year’s numbers, probably a little under.
