The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council, ADC-PCC, has accused President Bola Tinubu of avoiding Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election, saying he should not seek re-election if he is unwilling to face voters across the country.
Director of Media and Publicity of the ADC-PCC, Kola Ologbondiyan, made the allegation while receiving a delegation of youths under the aegis of Young Voters for Atiku.
Ologbondiyan described Tinubu’s reported absence from nationwide campaign engagements as an act of “contempt” for Nigerians, arguing that a president seeking a fresh mandate should be willing to visit voters and account for his performance in office.
“What President Tinubu has done is a clear act of contempt against the Nigerian people,” he said.
He dismissed the argument that presidential responsibilities could prevent Tinubu from campaigning across the country, noting that former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari campaigned nationwide while seeking re-election in office.
“President Tinubu has taken Nigerians for a joke and should not seek re-election. A President who is afraid to face his own people has no business asking for their votes,” Ologbondiyan said.
The ADC-PCC spokesman also criticised the Tinubu administration over what he described as worsening hunger, poverty, insecurity and economic hardship in the country.
“He knows Nigerians are hungry and angry. He knows that the average Nigerian finds it difficult to eat and to be secure,” he said.
Ologbondiyan urged young Nigerians to reject the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 election, arguing that another term for the party would further prolong the country’s economic and security challenges.
He said the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was prepared to campaign across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory as part of efforts to win the 2027 presidential election.
According to him, an Atiku administration would focus on economic recovery, wealth creation, national security and improving the standard of living of Nigerians.
“Atiku Abubakar will bring back subsidy to reduce the cost of petroleum products, create wealth, end hunger in our land, secure our nation and restore our battered economy,” he said.
