SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean won tumbled against the U.S. dollar Tuesday, as foreign investors remained net sellers of local stocks with the benchmark KOSPI index plunging more than 5 percent.
The won was quoted at 1,345.1 won per dollar at 3:30 p.m., down 10 won from the close of the previous stock trading session.
Led by fresh concerns related to artificial intelligence investments, the KOSPI dived 5.46 percent earlier in the day.
Samsung Electronics and SK hynix were particularly hard hit by news reports that China's CXMT has made a breakthrough in advanced chip technology ahead of the two semiconductor manufacturers.
Foreign investors sold a net 4.5 trillion won (US$3.4 billion) worth of local shares during the latest regular trading session, extending their sell-off to a sixth consecutive session.
