Sevilla’s players are adamant that they have suffered injustice at the hands of the team of officials in the club’s meeting with Real Madrid on Sunday.
This comes after Arda Güler avoided a potential red card during the first-half.
Real Madrid currently lead Sevilla by two goals to nil in Spain’s capital. Midfielder Arda was for his part responsible for opening the game’s scoring, courtesy of a wonderful left-footed strike.
Less than 10 minutes prior, though, the 21-year-old risked being sent off. After Peque repeatedly dragged Arda back amid his attempts to surge forward off the ball, the latter lashed out with a swing of his arm.
From here, Peque immediately went to ground holding his face. The referee was not called to check the incident by the VAR team at the Bernabéu, but had he been, Sevilla seem sure that Arda would have been shown a red card.
Speaking to Movistar, as cited by journalist Albert Ortega, on his way back to the dressing room at half-time this evening, Kike Salas explained:
“We had the match under control until Güler elbows Peque. It’s a clear red card. That makes all the difference. I don’t know why the referee didn’t go to the VAR. Peque tells me that Güler elbowed him.”
