Victoria’s auditor-general found that some government advertising campaigns breached rules requiring public sector communications to remain apolitical.
Victorian government advertising campaigns have breached rules requiring them to be objective, the state’s auditor-general’s office reports.
An audit team from VAGO took a deep dive into nine advertising campaigns run by the government. The resulting performance audit report says that not all campaigns comply with the public sector requirement to be apolitical.
The report says that the government spent $97 million in advertising during 2024-25 and an increasing portion of that spend was being allocated to online advertising.
