Tiger Woods seems poised to play in the upcoming TGL season after completing a rehab stint following his DUI arrest in Jupiter Island back in March.
During Thursday’s installment of the “Fore Play” podcast, PGA Tour pro Kevin Kisner revealed that his two-year contract with TGL — a high-tech, team-based indoor golf league founded by Woods — was not renewed partly due to Woods’ potential return to play a full season.
“Well obviously, I’m not on the team anymore,” said Kisner, who is a co-host of the show. “I had a two-year contract with Jupiter Links [signed in Oct. 2023] .. Tiger wants to play and then they wanted to sign [PGA Tour pro] Keith Mitchell, which is totally fine with me. It gives me a chance to hang out in January and February instead of flying back and forth to Palm Beach every Monday.”
“… Keith will be great on Jupiter Links and I’m sure I’ll still be involved in some sort of fashion at some point. Go down there and do some stuff for em … I talked to a bunch of the guys this week before the rosters came out and we all talked about everything going on. So, all good on my end.
“You know, the ‘Bad News Bears’ are still going to be a part of my life and hopefully they continue to win. I think I might even have some equity in the team or something from playing, so I hope they continue to win and win a bunch of money.”
When asked if he had an exit meeting, Kisner explained that “we talked about it at the end of the season” in March.
“Rob, Tiger’s guy, he texted me a long text last week, I think,” Kisner said. “Just telling me what they did on their decisions, how they were moving around and what players were going to do and that Tiger wanted to play a full schedule. I mean, we talked about it at the end of the season obviously.
“I mean, I’m not even playing any more really. I played two times this year. I don’t think people that are watching TGL really want part-time podcaster, part-time broadcaster playing in TGL … But they are playing for millions of dollars now so, I don’t know.”
Kisner added that he thinks Woods will play in both the Hero World Challenge and PNC Championship.
“The way he was swinging and moving on the range, I mean, the guy loves to compete,” Kisner said. ” Come back, get your feet with at the hero, play with Charlie in the father-son, play some TGL [and] get ready for August.”
Woods returned to action from back and an achilles injury during the final night of the TGL season on March 24, three days before he was arrested for DUI on Jupiter Island in a crash that involved his Land Rover and a pressure-cleaning truck pulling a small trailer.
Woods, who pleaded not guilty to DUI, did a stint in rehab in Switzerland, and checked out of a treatment facility and returned home in June.
Woods, who refused to take a urine test after his rollover crash, blew zeros on his breathalyzer test and told an arresting officer that he had taken his prescription meds earlier in the day.
Two hydrocodone pills were found in the golfer’s pocket during a search.
Woods’s DUI arrest came after his February 2021 car crash that nearly took his right leg.
