Good morning!
In recent weeks we’ve discussed new species of cats and penguins.
Today it’s a plant.
But this one is football related.
It appears scientists have discovered a new species of plant in the Peruvian Andes. This has some blue flowers, and those who discovered it wanted to name it “salvia messii” after Lionel Messi, who plays alongside Marcos Senesi for the Argentinian national football team.

For those keeping track, this is the sixth plant named after Lionel Messi. This leads me to ask why not one plant has been named after fitzie, particularly considering when fitzie has made famous an orchid purchased at a Virginia-based Ikea store in 2022.
But that’s not the point. The world has discovered a new plant. That’s terrific. Let us discover many more.
