Patriots’ A.J. Brown Confident Despite Quiet Night Against Bears: ‘I Know What Type of Player I Am’ originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
A.J. Brown is still looking for a breakout performance after the Patriots’ loss to the Bears Thursday night.
The star receiver played in his second game returning from IR after an injury suffered in Week 1. He caught three passes for 48 yards. It was more than the 27 he caught against the Jets just a few days ago.
Fans expected Brown to showcase his electric skills by now. Brown, back from an ankle sprain, understands this, but also knows how past success may be why there are so few receptions.
"It's kind of how the game is. I know what type of player I am," Brown said via CLNS Media. "That’s always the case... I get a lot of attention, teams try and take me away, and it gives a lot of opportunities for other guys to make plays. Soften it up for me, and whenever I get my shot, I gotta make them."
Brown wasn’t the only receiver who didn’t get many opportunities against Chicago. DeMario Douglas had 23 receiving yards. Tight end Hunter Henry ended with 71 yards. Running back Rhamondre Stevenson led the team with 93 receiving yards.
Following a quick turnaround on Thursday, Brown aims to start fresh. He could be ready to produce by the Patriots’ next game, on November 1 against the Dolphins.
