BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WSPA) – On Monday, Senior quarterback LaNorris Sellers and junior EDGE Dylan Stewart each were recognized by the SEC for their performances in leading South Carolina to a 38-19 road win at No. 16/15 Florida last Saturday. Sellers was named SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Stewart was tabbed SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week.
In addition, the Gamecocks (3-3, 1-3 SEC) and the No. 14 Vols (5-1, 2-1) will start at 3:30 p.m. ET in Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday Oct. 24. The game will be broadcast on either ESPN or SEC Network, pending results leading up to gameday.
Sellers was also named one of the eight Manning Award Stars of the Week and to the Davey O’Brien Great 8 list, which earns him a spot on the Davey O’Brien Award Midseason Watch List.
Sellers accounted for 299 yards of total offense and five touchdowns Saturday in Gainesville. He was 23-of-35 (65.7%) for 279 yards through the air and tossed four touchdown passes to four different receivers with completions to eight different receivers total in the road win, which was the program’s third all-time victory at The Swamp and first since 2014.
The homegrown Florence, S.C. native also had 20 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground in helping lead the Gamecocks on a 38-6 scoring run after trailing 7-0 late in the first quarter. The 38 points scored by Sellers and the Gamecocks’ offense were the most in a road win over an AP Top-25 team in program history and the most ever scored by a South Carolina team at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Saturday marked Sellers’ fifth game of the season with 250 yards or more of total offense, which leads the SEC and is T-4th nationally.
Sellers’ 15 career rushing touchdowns are now T-3rd most in program history by a quarterback with Stephen Garcia (2008-11) and Garry Harper (1978-1980).
His 17 career games with 250 yards or more of total offense are the most by any Gamecock player dating back to 1995. Sellers currently ranks No. 5 all-time at South Carolina in career passing yards (6,395), No. 6 all-time in career completions (493), No. 6 all-time in career passing touchdowns (45) and No. 3 all-time in career completion percentage (63.0%). His 1,406 career rushing yards are No. 3 all-time by a Gamecock quarterback trailing only Connor Shaw (1,683) and Jeff Grantz (1,589).
Saturday was Stewart's first game back since his one-game suspension for his behavior in the Alabama game, and he took advantage of every opportunity.
Stewart had five tackles, 1.0 sack and two forced fumbles in helping lead the Gamecock defense. It marked his third career game with multiple forced fumbles. The Washington, D.C. native is one of just 18 players in FBS to have multiple forced fumbles in a game this season and one of only two players to do it in an SEC game.
Stewart is the only Gamecock defender the last 21 seasons to have multiple games with multiple forced fumbles. He was part of a defense that forced a season-high three turnovers in Gainesville and limited the nation’s No. 5 scoring offense (46.2 points per game) to just 19 points on their home field.
It’s Stewart’s second career SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honor and first since Sept. 2 in the 2024 season when he shared the weekly award with teammate Kyle Kennard. It’s Sellers’ third career SEC Offensive Player of the Week honor and first since Dec. 2, 2024, after he led the Gamecocks to a 17-14 road win at No. 12/12 Clemson in the final regular season game.
