As the Denver Broncos stunned defending Super Bowl-winning Seattle Seahawks in overtime at the Empire Field in Denver, Colorado, on Thursday, kicker Wil Lutz’s game-winning field goal was the talk of the town.
What followed Lutz’ performance was a celebration that made it seem like the Broncos kicker was shushing the Denver home fans. Reacting to Lutz’ celebration, NFL aggregator Dov Kleiman reported the aftermath of Lutz’s celebration, with the kicker supposedly facing “severe backlash” from Denver fans.
However, fans online called out Kleiman for his post, with many claiming Lutz’ celebration was misread. A certain section of the fanbase also highlighted how the kicker is not facing any backlash from the Broncos’ faithful.
“Let him have his moment 🙄,” wrote a fan on X.
Denver’s 17-14 overtime win on Thursday has now propelled it to the second spot in the AFC West standings with an overall record of 4-2.
How Has Wil Lutz Fared For The Broncos So Far This Season?
While Wil Lutz’ 53-yard field goal helped the Denver Broncos seal the game against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday, the kicker has been a consistent cog in the Broncos’ setup.
Lutz has so far garnered a total of 36 points through six games this NFL season, having converted nine of his 12 field goal attempts with a conversion rate of 75%.
He opened the season by converting a 31-yard field goal against the Kansas City Chiefs before making both his field-goal attempts against the Jacksonville Jaguars, including a 45-yarder. As the Denver Broncos march ahead in the 2026 NFL season, the franchise would most definitely want the kicker to continue his fine run of form.
