Citizen Lab of the University of Toronto added that Rade Bajic, a senior associate at Serbia's Organised Crime Prosecutor's Office (TOK), received Apple warnings that his phone had been targeted with advanced spyware.
It said that forensic analysis confirmed the Pegasus infection on Djokic's phone and added that the attack used a zero-click exploit, which can infect a device without any action by its owner.
Bajic received Apple threat notifications on August 13 and August 27, but researchers have not established whether his phone was successfully compromised.
Bajic worked on the General Staff case, which investigated possible criminal responsibility among officials over the removal of protected status from a former military complex in Belgrade. Djokic has supported student protests and faced criticism from government officials and pro-government media.
The findings add to a series of spyware cases documented in Serbia. In September, SHARE said at least 14 students, activists and opposition figures had received notifications of possible targeting with advanced spyware.
