Pupils should be taught about relationships involving multiple partners and polyamory should be given legal recognition, according to ‘detached from reality’ Scottish Green activists.
They will propose this weekend that sex education should not prescribe ‘specific relationship structures as superior or more desirable’ and that lessons ‘should cover a mix of sexual identities’ such as ‘throuples’.
The motion, to be debated at the Scottish Greens’ autumn conference in Inverness, says ‘all relationship structures should be recognised and reflected in our education’.
Proposed by the party’s Greens of Colour group, the submission also says polyamorous relationships are growing in number across Scotland ‘but remain without recognition’.
They claim this can ‘prevent members of poly relationships from day-visiting their partners in cases of serious illness or being recognised as their partners in official documentation’.
Activists also insist state benefits ‘should take into account relationships that may involve multiple partners’.
Some Scottish Greens have put forward a motion to have schools teach children about relationships involving multiple partners to be discussed at the party's autumn conference
Scottish Conservative deputy leader Rachael Hamilton described the Scottish Greens as ‘completely detached from reality’ and said they ‘have their priorities utterly wrong’.
She said: ‘While Scots are being hammered by soaring bills, crumbling public services and an NHS in crisis, the Scottish Greens are obsessing over giving polyamorous relationships a legal makeover.
‘This is the sort of bizarre political navel-gazing that makes people despair of Holyrood. ’
Reform UK MSP Max Bannerman added: ‘This motion is the latest desperate attempt by the Left to outdo itself in the race to be simultaneously the most extreme and the most detached party in politics.’
Ross Greer, co-leader of the Scottish Greens, said the party is a ‘democracy’ and members can bring forward motions to debate.
The party also want to replace the council tax with an annual charge based on house prices, raising fears of even bigger bills.
In another attempted tax grab, they have also called for a ‘frequent flyer levy’ aimed at business travellers. Punishing those who travel by air more regularly, it would raise £50million a year north of the Border.
The Greens said the money would be used to cut the cost of trains and buses.
