Sampdoria have sacked Bernardo Corradi after a dismal start to the Serie B season, with Marco Giampaolo the frontrunner to replace him.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the former Italy striker has paid the price for Sunday’s 2-1 home defeat to Arezzo at the Ferraris, Sampdoria’s fifth loss in their first seven league games. The Blucerchiati are bottom of Serie B on four points, level with Catanzaro, and were heavily jeered by their own supporters.
Sampdoria statement on Corradi sacking
“U.C. Sampdoria announces that it has relieved Bernardo Corradi of his duties as first-team coach,” read a club statement. “The club wishes to thank Corradi for the dedication he showed during his time with the Blucerchiati.”
The club also thanked assistant coach Massimo Mutarelli and technical collaborator Stefano Fiore, and said the new coach and staff “will be announced in the coming hours”.
Giampaolo is the clear favourite and would be returning for a third spell. He coached Sampdoria in Serie A from 2016 to 2019 and again from January to October 2022.
He was most recently at Cremonese, where he replaced Davide Nicola in March. Nicola took over at Venezia last week.
