An underwhelming 0-5 start has observers wondering if the Los Angeles Chargers would consider shopping Justin Herbert.
A former NFL star believes somebody close to Jim Harbaugh should pursue the struggling quarterback.
Ex-Pro Bowl offensive lineman Terron Armstead suggested that the New York Giants could seek a trade for Herbert. They lead a weakened NFC East at 3-1-1 despite losing starting quarterback Jaxson Dart to a season-ending MCL tear.
Armstead feels New York can pounce on a vulnerable division. He recently called the Philadelphia Eagles' season "over" after they traded Pro Bowl center Cam Jurgens to the Baltimore Ravens, and the CBS Sports analyst said Wednesday that the Dallas Cowboys are "done" following a Week 5 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"They really have an opportunity to own this division and make some noise," Armstead said of the Giants. "Now my question was, if you're the Giants GM, do you put together a package to trade for Justin Herbert right now?"
Herbert might not feel like much of an upgrade over Jameis Winston while posting the worst QBR (26.6) of any qualified passer this season. The 28-year-old has five touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a career-low 6.6 yards per pass attempt.
Armstead still thinks Herbert's track record could merit a blockbuster.
"He hasn't played well at all. But you look at his career, what he's amassed over his career, you've seen the talent," Armstead said of Herbert. "You've seen the production, not in the playoffs, but you've seen what he's been able to do at the quarterback position."

...
Armstead speculated on the asking price New York may have to meet to land Herbert. It's likely a hypothetical thought exercise, though, as a source from the Chargers told ESPN's Adam Schefter that they've "never" discussed trading their starting quarterback.
"If the ask is Jaxson Dart and two first-round picks, do you make that trade as the New York Giants GM?" Armstead asked.
Jim Harbaugh may have no interest in Herbert playing for his brother, but John Harbaugh's Giants have already acquired Jim's former college quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, from the Minnesota Vikings.
