A Mumbai court on Wednesday remanded the three key accused arrested in connection with the firing at actor Tiger Shroff’s car to police custody till October 31.
The accused were brought to Mumbai from Kota, Rajasthan, early on Wednesday. They have been identified as Rehan alias Sukka, a resident of Sonipat in Haryana; Ritik Kurmi alias Roshan, originally from Begusarai in Bihar and currently residing in Mumbai; and Phool Singh, who is also from Haryana.
The Mumbai Police Crime Branch, which is investigating the case, produced the three accused before a magistrate and sought 14 days of custody to carry out further investigations.
The police told the court that they needed to recover the weapons allegedly used in the shooting. They also claimed that the accused had destroyed two mobile phones and said their custody was necessary to establish the conspiracy and motive behind the attack.
Opposing the remand plea, defence lawyers Ajinkya Mirgal and Satyabrat Joshi argued that police custody was not necessary to recover the weapons. They also submitted that the accused had already been interrogated while in transit remand.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court remanded the three accused to police custody till October 31.
The Kota city police had apprehended the trio from a train on Monday following specific intelligence inputs. They were subsequently handed over to the Mumbai Police, which formally arrested them and obtained a transit remand from a magistrate before bringing them to the city.
The firing took place in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening, when at least two men allegedly opened fire at Shroff’s car before fleeing on a motorcycle. The actor escaped with relatively minor injuries, while his driver and a bystander were injured.
According to the Mumbai Police, five to six rounds were fired at the vehicle. The motorcycle allegedly used by the shooters was later found abandoned in Andheri.
The police have registered a case under sections relating to attempted murder and provisions of the Arms Act.
