The Orlando Magicreceived encouraging news regarding Anthony Black ahead of Sunday’s matchup against the reigning NBA champion New York Knicks, as the guard has been upgraded to questionable for the team’s upcoming road trip.
Orlando’s latest injury report Saturday listed Black as questionable with a right ankle sprain, signaling progress toward his return after missing the opening two games of the 2026-27 regular season.
The 22-year-old suffered the injury during voluntary workouts before training camp and has been working toward a return under first-year head coach Sean Sweeney.

Black’s potential availability comes at a critical time for Orlando, which suffered another significant setback Saturday involving star forward Paolo Banchero.
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Banchero sustained a low-grade right high ankle sprain during Friday’s 115-93 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The injury typically carries a recovery timetable of four to six weeks.
With Banchero facing a potentially extended absence, Black’s return could provide much-needed depth and offensive production.
The fourth-year guard averaged 15.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.4 steals across 64 games last season, shooting 44.7% from the field.
Magic injury report includes several notable absences
While Black’s questionable designation represents positive news, Orlando continues to deal with injuries across its roster.
Veteran forward Jonathan Isaac has been ruled out because of left knee injury management, while guard Izaiyah Nelson remains sidelined as he recovers from a left ankle injury.
Second-year forward Noah Penda is also out with a partially torn right hamstring.
Black’s status remains uncertain, and the Magic will determine his availability closer to Sunday’s contest.
Orlando (0-2) will begin its three-game road trip against New York (0-2), looking to secure its first victory of the season following consecutive home losses.
The Magic and Knicks will meet Sunday at 7 p.m. ET.
