By Zoila Palma: Fourteen players from the Football Federation of Belize’s (FFB) Under-15 Boys National Football Team will represent Belize at the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival 2026 in Azerbaijan from October 24 to 30.
The FFB says that the team is scheduled to depart Belize on Monday for the three-day journey to Azerbaijan.
The selection process began with more than 30 young footballers from across Belize, all hoping to earn a place on the national squad. However, with only 14 players permitted per team, the selection process was challenging.
The FFB acknowledged the commitment and effort of all players who participated, including those who did not make the final roster.
The federation noted that participation in football helps young people develop discipline, teamwork, resilience, friendships and confidence.
The international competition will also give the Belizean players an opportunity to test their skills against teams from around the world, experience different styles of play and gain valuable experience to bring back to their clubs and communities. Players are expected to compete in between five and 10 matches across the festival’s seven match days.
For some members of the squad, the trip will be their first opportunity to travel abroad.
The FFB said the experience will expose the young players to new cultures and traditions while allowing them to connect with other young footballers who share their passion for the sport.
