The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given a private higher institution – Euston University, Abakaliki, Ebonyi state, to commence five academic programmes for the 2026/2027 session, following a successful resource verification exercise.
The approval covers Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Public Health, Computer Science and Cybersecurity, according to a statement by the acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Felicia Moh in Abakaliki at the weekend.
Moh said the approval followed an assessment by the NUC resource verification team to determine the university’s readiness to commence the programmes.
The team examined the adequacy of the institution’s infrastructure, academic facilities, equipment and human resources required to deliver the proposed courses.
The statement said the verification team was received by the university’s principal officers and key officials, led by the acting vice-chancellor.
Reacting to the development, Moh expressed appreciation to the NUC for the exercise and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to meeting and sustaining regulatory standards for quality higher education.
She commended the university’s Chancellor, Lady Eunice Egwu, for her vision and investment in the institution, particularly her efforts to expand access to quality higher education and create opportunities for young people in Ebonyi state and beyond.
The acting vice-chancellor said the university had invested significantly in infrastructure, academic facilities and human resources to provide a conducive environment for teaching, learning and research.
She also praised the NUC leadership for its reforms and commitment to improving the quality and relevance of university education in Nigeria.
The university described the approval as a major milestone in its development, paving the way for academic activities in the five programmes, and urged prospective students, parents and guardians to take advantage of the admission opportunities for the 2026/2027 session, noting that available spaces were limited.
Lady Eunice is the wife of former governor of Ebonyi state, Sam Egwu.
