The New York Stock Exchange, part of Intercontinental Exchange, introduced extended trading hours for options listed on NYSE American on Monday, adding sessions before and after the core trading session.
The early session runs from 7:30 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. ET, and the late session runs from 4 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. ET, the company said.
The initial group of eligible symbols includes options on ETFs such as SPY, IWM and GLD, and options on large-cap technology companies including Apple $AAPL, Microsoft $MSFT, Nvidia $NVDA, Alphabet $GOOGL, Amazon $AMZN and Oracle $ORCL, NYSE said. The exchange pointed market participants to its Extended Trading Hours Fact Sheet for the full list of symbols and session details.
According to CNBC, 29 equities and ETFs qualify to trade in the added sessions, a group that also takes in Bank of America $BAC.
"Markets have changed tremendously over the years, and that kind of progress only happens when you keep investing in your technology," Kevin Tyrrell, NYSE's chief product officer, said in a statement.
"Extended trading hours for options reflects market demand for investment opportunities and reliable risk management during a longer period of time," Tyrrell said. He added that NYSE is looking ahead to bringing the same approach to equities in December.
NYSE is the second major exchange to announce extended options trading on actively traded ETFs and individual stocks, according to CNBC. Cboe had already announced plans to extend hours for options on five ETFs and 25 individual stocks, CNBC reported.
Trading volume in the first extended session on Monday was light, according to CNBC.
Intercontinental Exchange operates futures, equity and options exchanges, including the NYSE, along with clearing houses.
