US Representative Ilhan Omar’s home in Washington, DC was raided in the early morning hours of Monday, 12 October by federal agents wearing Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) jackets, FoxNews.com reports.
The news site also claims, referring to two sources, that the investigation has to do with supposed fraud involving her immigration paperwork, which was filled out by her late father when the family arrived in the United States.
Congresswoman Omar was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1982. She and her family were granted asylum and relocated to the US in 1995, when she was 13 years old.
However, now the HSI alleges that the way the Omar family obtained legal residency was fraudulent and thus criminal.
‘Today in the Washington, DC area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation,’ a DOJ spokesperson told Fox Digital about the raid.
HSI is the primary investigative directorate of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Immigration enforcement has been one of the focal points of the second Trump administration.
The Many Scandals around Ilhan Omar
Ilhan Omar has been representing the 5th Congressional District of Minnesota since 2019, as a member of the Democratic Party.
Allegations that she married her own brother to gain legal immigration status in the US have been circulating since 2016. Congresswoman Nancy Mace of South Carolina suggested in a social media post that this is what may have prompted today’s raid on Omar’s DC home.

In addition, in April of this year, major irregularities in the Minnesota Congresswoman’s financial disclosure were reported in the press. Apparently, her and her husband’s net worth was declared as $30 million in 2024, but just $110,000 in 2025. A winery in particular has drawn a lot of scrutiny.
On paper, Representative Omar’s husband owned a winery worth $1 million–$5 million called ESTCRU. However, when curious observers looked up the business online, they found no publicly available physical location, a defunct website, and a Facebook page where the last post was made in January 2023.
