For Jalen Hurts, football has always demanded discipline, toughness and the ability to push through adversity. But the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is now facing something far more important than anything that happens on the field.
And his mother, Pamela Hurts, is putting that reality into perspective.
The 28-year-old Super Bowl champion is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 NFL season after doctors discovered blood clots in his lungs. The concerning development has prompted an outpouring of support for Hurts, whose family is now navigating an unexpected health scare.
Amid the uncertainty, Pamela shared a message that had little to do with football and everything to do with appreciating what matters most.
Jalen Hurts' Mom Shares Heartfelt Message Amid Health Scare
On Monday, Oct. 19, Pamela posted a TikTok video encouraging her followers to appreciate the things they might otherwise take for granted.
"Just a reminder y'all, be grateful," she began.
"Be grateful for where you are and what you have because your life could change at a blink of an eye. Be grateful. What are you grateful for?"
She accompanied the video with a simple caption: "Things could always be worse…"
Pamela didn't explicitly mention her son in the video. However, the timing was particularly poignant, coming the same day the Eagles announced the latest developments surrounding his health.
For a family accustomed to watching Hurts handle enormous pressure in front of millions of people, the circumstances are dramatically different this time.
There are no plays to call, no fourth-quarter comebacks to orchestrate and no championship trophy at stake. The priority is his health.
Pamela has been one of her son's most consistent supporters throughout his football career, from his college days at Alabama and Oklahoma to his rise as one of the NFL's most recognizable quarterbacks.
She has celebrated his biggest accomplishments, including Philadelphia's Super Bowl victory in February 2025.
Now, her message is a reminder that even the most accomplished athletes aren't immune to the unexpected challenges life can bring.
Eagles Share Encouraging Update on Jalen Hurts' Recovery
The Eagles and Hurts' agent, Nicole Lynn, released a joint statement Monday confirming that the quarterback had been diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli.
Hurts was initially diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his left calf while the Eagles were in London. Additional medical evaluations subsequently revealed the more serious condition.
According to the statement, Hurts is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations. His treatment is expected to involve anticoagulants, commonly known as blood thinners, which prevent him from participating in contact sports while taking the medication.
Although the diagnosis is serious, the medical outlook offers reason for optimism.
"Jalen's prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery," the statement read.
The Eagles also anticipate that Hurts will be able to resume football activities once he completes treatment, with no lasting health effects expected.
For Philadelphia, losing its starting quarterback is a significant setback. Hurts has been the face of the franchise throughout its recent success, leading the Eagles to two Super Bowl appearances and earning Super Bowl MVP honors in 2025.
But the team's record and playoff hopes have understandably become secondary to his recovery.
And while fans wait for the next update on Hurts' health, his mother's words offer a perspective worth remembering.
Sometimes, the biggest victory has nothing to do with football.
