Shillong, October 12: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Monday inaugurated the Patharkhmah Model Degree College, the new building of Patharkhmah Senior Secondary School and the Jirang Block Office in Ri-Bhoi district, marking a significant step towards strengthening education and administration in the region.
The Patharkhmah Model Degree College is the first government degree college in Ri-Bhoi district funded under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). The institution is expected to improve access to higher education for students, particularly those from Western Ri-Bhoi.
Speaking on the occasion, Sangma emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring that students can pursue higher education closer to home without having to travel to other towns.
He noted that having a school and a college in close proximity would provide students with greater access to educational opportunities, from school-level learning to graduation.
The Chief Minister also inaugurated the newly constructed building of Patharkhmah Senior Secondary School, expressing hope that the improved facilities, along with the dedication of teachers and the hard work of students, would help the institution achieve greater success.
Sangma reiterated the state government’s commitment to making quality education more accessible and creating opportunities for young people across Meghalaya to fulfil their aspirations.
He said the inauguration of the three facilities marked another milestone in strengthening public infrastructure and promoting development in the region, reaffirming the government’s resolve to ensure that development reaches every corner of Meghalaya.
