One of the men convicted of killing police officer Sharon Beshenivsky started selling guns to criminals after being released from prison, a court heard.
Faisal Razzaq was jailed in 2006 for acting as the getaway driver in a robbery which ended in Pc Beshenivsky being shot dead.
He was sentenced to life with a minimum of 11 years in prison after he was convicted of manslaughter for his role in the raid at family-run Universal Express travel agents in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
When Razzaq, now 45, was given parole in 2017, he lived in Edgware, north London, and began running a luxury car hire business, but spent much of his time obtaining guns and selling them to criminal customers.
He is one of six people to be sentenced for his involvement in a firearms conspiracy which supplied weapons to gangs across London.
He previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to sell or transfer banned guns, possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life and two counts of possessing a firearm and ammunition when banned.
Harrow Crown Court heard that while serving his sentence over Pc Beshenivsky’s death, Razzaq was in HMP Ranby at the same time as one of his co-defendants in the firearms conspiracy, Robert Dorey, from 2013 to 2015.
The court heard the case involved significant quantities of guns being sold in a conspiracy which saw Robert Dorey, 45, and his brother Ricky Dorey, 44, passing them on to Razzaq who sold them on to criminals.
Outlining the case, prosecutor Alisdair Smith said: “(Razzaq) played a central role in the conspiracy, co-ordinating the obtaining and then distribution of prohibited firearms and lethal ammunition for his own financial gain, regardless of who he was supplying the firearms to or to what use they intended to put them.
“Even allowing for the difficulty in quantifying exactly how many weapons he distributed, it is submitted that it was clearly a significant number.”
Prosecutors said Razzaq, the Dorey brothers and Abdul Saleh, 32, were involved in the sale of 10 revolvers in August 2024.
Police discovered their roles in the conspiracy through a probe placed inside Razzaq’s car which recorded his conversations.
On August 21, he was heard discussing the sale of firearms with several people.
At one point he told someone called JD he was going to “sell some guns” that evening.
Mr Smith said: “He tells JD that he has six for sale and will sell one to JD for £4,000 so that he can sell it for £5,000, but warns him about who he sells it to as if the person becomes his enemy one day ‘one of them bullets will be for you’.”
The court heard that on August 22 Razzaq drove Saleh to his home in Edgeware, and they discussed selling a gun to a customer, as well as how many rounds of ammunition are routinely sold along with a weapon.
The court heard Razzaq told Saleh that if the police attempted to detain him he should not hesitate to shoot at them in order to escape, saying: “Feds try and grab you just shoot at the car, shoot in the air. I don’t care where you shoot but you’ve got to shoot bro.”
As to who a weapon is sold to, the court heard Razzaq told Saleh: “I’ll sell it to anyone, I don’t give a f*** bro. We’re businessmen Harry, (a nickname for Saleh), we don’t care.”
Razzaq also told Saleh that he had access to “Skorps” – Skorpion sub-machine guns.
The court heard that between August 27 and September 1 there were exchanges between Ricky and Robert Dorey and Razzaq where they discussed the supply of firearms.
Police searched Razzaq’s home on Buckingham Road on September 2, and found a pistol as well as eight rounds of ammunition in a bag at the bottom of a makeshift wardrobe.
Mr Smith said the gun had been given to Razzaq by Ricky and Robert Dorey, and later returned by a customer because of an issue with the quality.
Kingpin Thomas McKenna was previously jailed for 16 years, after admitting he had run a workshop from one of his caravans where he turned blank-firing guns into deadly guns to sell to gangs.
One of Razzaq’s associates was stopped by armed police in Harrow as he drove to Notting Hill Carnival on August 26 2024, and officers found a bag in the car with a loaded firearm which was traced back to McKenna through fingerprint and DNA analysis.
Also due to be sentenced were Patrick Loughnane, 59, who acted as a communication link between Ricky Dorey and McKenna, and Loughnane’s niece Tammy Rigg, 40, who agreed to store a converted firearm at her home in South Ockendon.
Judge Hannah Kinch will sentence the six defendants on October 22.
Razzaq was one of seven men convicted over the robbery that led to Pc Beshenivsky’s death on November 18 2005.
The officer was killed on her daughter’s fourth birthday while interrupting the robbery.
