President Lee Jae-myung on the 16th appointed Park Dong-il, head of the Ministry of Trade and Industry's industrial policy office, as vice minister of the ministry, and Shin Jin-chang, secretary general of the Financial Services Commission, as FSC vice chairman.
Presidential Senior Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung announced the appointments in a written briefing the same day. Both the industry ministry and the FSC promoted internal candidates.
Park is an industrial policy specialist who has served in key ministry posts including director general for manufacturing industry policy, gaining broad experience in planning and coordinating industrial policy and in fostering the country's core manufacturing sectors.
"He has consistently demonstrated a strong grasp of industrial sites and the ability to coordinate public-private cooperation, including by smoothly leading a public-private task force to implement large-scale investment plans in the Chungcheong region," Kang said. "He is expected to move quickly on industrial policies that the public can feel, such as securing a decisive lead in future strategic industries and creating quality jobs through manufacturing innovation and region-led industrial transition."
Shin is an economic official with deep insight into financial markets and the financial industry, having held key FSC posts including director general of the financial policy bureau and the financial industry bureau, Kang said. "Backed by strong drive and a feel for the field, he has shown expertise across all areas of finance, including stabilizing funding markets after the Middle East war, financial support for low- and middle-income households and small business owners, and real estate finance policy," she said. "He is the right person to lead warm, inclusive finance that saves people while completing the shift to productive finance that revives the economy."
