She ended up in the doghouse.
A heartless Yonkers woman who left her pup tied up at a local cemetery with a slit throat won’t be allowed to own any more pets after pleading guilty to animal cruelty charges, prosecutors said Thursday.
Anita Martin, 60, admitted that she left her 1-year-old mastiff mix, Frankie, tied up at St. John’s Cemetery shortly before 1 a.m. on Nov. 21 without food and water and an ugly gash — three hours before a good Samaritan rescued the poor pooch, Westchester County prosecutors said.
“[Wednesday’s] plea ensures that Ms. Martin will be placed on the Animal Abuse Registry, prohibiting her from owning, caring for, or having contact with animals,” District Attorney Susan Cacace said in a statement.
“She must also reimburse the cost of Frankie’s care to the Yonkers Animal Shelter, which treated him after being abandoned, and remain under probation supervision for three years.”
Surveillance footage captured the crime, which shows Martin dressed in black and walking Frankie to the cemetery, where she tied the leash to a fence and walked away.
Gruesome photos released by the SPCA of Westchester show a massive gash to Frankie’s throat.
“The gash exposed the underlying tissue and was severely infected, with pus and a foul odor present,” the DA’s office said. “Frankie was also found to be severely underweight and emaciated, with his ribs clearly visible, indicating prolonged inadequate nutrition.
“He subsequently underwent a complex, two-hour surgery to treat his injuries.”
Martin pleaded guilty in Westchester County Court Wednesday to Overdriving, Torturing, and Injuring Animals, Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance, and Abandonment of Animals, which are misdemeanors.
She is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 13 to three years of probation and will be listed on the animal abuse registry prohibiting her from being a pet owner in the future, prosecutors said.
Meanwhile, the DAs office said Frankie made a full recover “and is now in a loving home.”
