By Zoila Palma: The Belize Defence Force (BDF) and the University of Belize (UB) have signed a scholarship agreement aimed at expanding educational opportunities for BDF service members. The agreement reinforces both institutions’ commitment to academic development, professional growth and capacity building within Belize’s security sector.
This builds on a Memorandum of Understanding signed on July 15, 2025, which established a strategic partnership between the two institutions. Under the existing partnership, two BDF service members are currently pursuing tertiary-level studies at the University of Belize.
The agreement was signed by representatives of both institutions, including Michel Chebat and UB President Dr. Vincent Palacio, who reaffirmed their commitment to creating greater educational opportunities for the men and women serving in Belize’s security apparatus.
The partnership is expected to support the development of leadership, innovation and professional skills within the BDF while strengthening collaboration between the military and the country’s national university.
