The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians on Monday to advance to the World Series. Designated hitter Yandy Diaz put the finishing touches on the 7-3 win with a home run in the 8th inning. While his trot around the bases didn’t quite reach the emotional highs that Junior Caminero’s did an inning earlier, it was still something worthy of an over-the-top celebration.
Diaz made good on that in the locker room after the game as he brandished a huge tomahawk steak and literally flexed for the cameras to commemorate one of the coolest nights of his life.

This is not the first time Diaz has celebrated this postseason with a tomahawk steak. When the Rays clinched a postseason berth in September he was seen carrying one of the cartoonish hunks of meat around the clubhouse during the celebration.

First of all, Diaz is an absolute tank. If his diet consists of nothing but over-the-top items off Salt Bae’s menu, that actually kind of makes sense. The surprising part is hearing a guy that looks like that has never hit more than 25 home runs in a season.
The tomahawk steak celebration will go down in baseball lore if the Rays can pull this off. And from a business standpoint, it’s a brilliant gambit from Diaz who will have restaurants fighting for the right to serve his signature dish whenever he gets hungry. And from the looks of these videos, this is a guy who is always hungry.
