Burger King is offering a Hello Kitty and Friends King Jr. Kids' Meal starting Tuesday, with each meal including one of six Sanrio toys packed in a mystery blind box, the company said. The meal is available for a limited time at participating U.S. restaurants while supplies last.
The toys feature Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll and Keroppi, each wearing a Burger King crown. Some hold Burger King menu items. The sixth toy is a golden-colored Hello Kitty. Customers who find it may be awarded a complete set of all six figurines, at participating restaurants while supplies last, the company said.
Each meal pairs a drink and a side of fries or applesauce with a main of either a hamburger, a cheeseburger or 4- or 6-piece chicken nuggets. The food comes in a bag themed after Hello Kitty and is accompanied by a Hello Kitty crown while supplies last.
"To celebrate our partnership, a limited number of golden Hello Kitty toys will be included in our six-toy lineup," Joel Yashinsky, chief marketing officer of Burger King U.S. and Canada, said in a statement.
Burger King is running a one-day Golden Claw Machine promotion on Friday at its Downey, California, location, 10014 Paramount $PARA Blvd. Starting at 11 a.m. PT, customers ordering a King Jr. Meal get a turn at the customized claw machine, with a chance to win a Hello Kitty toy. One guest could win a unique Hello Kitty figurine plated in 14K gold.
The promotion ends at 5 p.m. PT or when all prizes have been awarded, whichever comes first. It is open to legal residents of the 49 U.S. states and D.C. (excluding Rhode Island) who are 18 or older. A free method of entry is described in the official rules posted at the restaurant.
"We love seeing Hello Kitty and Friends get the royal treatment at Burger King, with each character sporting their own iconic BK crown," Jill Koch, chief brand officer of Sanrio Inc., said in a statement.
Hello Kitty has also appeared in a recent fast-food promotion at another chain. McDonald's $MCD launched a Hello Kitty & Friends x Godzilla Happy Meal in August, with eight collectible toys that each pair a Sanrio character with a Godzilla franchise monster.
