Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. File
The Esplanade Police in Chennai have registered a case and launched an investigation into a complaint alleging that a DMK functionary made derogatory remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at a party function in Chennai on October 7.
Udhayakumar, Harbour area Secretary of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), lodged a complaint with the Esplanade police station on Sunday (October 18, 2026). In his complaint, he alleged that a triennial celebration organised by the DMK’s Chennai East district women’s wing and women’s volunteers’ wing was held at Raja Annamalai Mandram on October 7. The event was organised by Murali, the DMK’s Harbour area secretary, and attended by several party functionaries.

Sudha Deenadayalan, district women’s wing organiser and DMK councillor representing Ward 95 in the Villivakkam area, presided over the event and delivered an address. The complainant alleged that she used objectionable language against the Chief Minister with the intention of provoking conflict between groups and creating tension among the public.
Mr. Udhayakumar sought action against Sudha Deenadayalan and Murali, who organised the event. Based on his complaint, the Esplanade Police registered a case. Further investigation is under way.
