A militant accused of masterminding a suicide attack on the old Kohat Police Lines has been killed in an intelligence-based joint operation in Lakki Marwat district, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) says.
The operation was jointly conducted by the CTD Lakki Marwat unit and security forces, according to the department.
The slain Khawarij, identified as Zahid Gul, was allegedly involved in several terrorist attacks and was accused of guiding the explosive-laden vehicle used in the suicide attack on the old Kohat Police Lines.
According to the CTD, Zahid Gul also had close links with the Gul Bahadur militant group and has been involved in transporting several suicide bombers to Kohat.
He had also brought a suicide bomber to attack the new Kohat Police Lines about two months ago. That attack was foiled.
The department said the militant’s intended targets included a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) setup and a police training school in Kohat.
Other members of the militant cell have already been taken into custody by security agencies, the CTD added.
The slain terrorist was also involved in the bank robbery in Bili Tung, in which Rs.6 million were looted, states the CTD.
The stolen funds were distributed among terrorist factions based in Banu, specifically in the Bakakhel and Janikhel areas.
