Colombo, Oct 18 (Daily Mirror) - The case files and documents relating to investigations into former Minister Basil Rajapaksa have been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department for further legal action, Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala said.
The move comes amid reports that the government is taking steps to bring Rajapaksa back to Sri Lanka and seek an international arrest notice in connection with ongoing investigations.
Earlier, Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena ordered the Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) Illegal Assets Investigation Unit to take steps to arrest Basil Rajapaksa and produce him before court over the alleged misappropriation of funds allocated to the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau.
The Magistrate also directed the authorities to take the necessary steps to obtain an Interpol Red Notice for Rajapaksa.
The order was issued following submissions made by the CID regarding the alleged incident.
