"The Assassins," a film that drew political controversy over claims of historical distortion, has surpassed 3.26 million cumulative admissions to become the fourth-highest-grossing Korean film of the year.
Producer Hive Media Corp said on the 20th that it is holding thank-you events offering ticket vouchers and limited-edition collaboration T-shirts to express gratitude for steady support from moviegoers. Directed by Hur Jin-ho and starring Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il and Lee Min-ho, "The Assassins" traces the suspicions and alleged masterminds behind the shooting of the first lady on Aug. 15, 1974, an incident that shocked South Korea. Released on Sept. 23, the film drew attention for its tense pursuit of the truth behind the case and the solid chemistry among its cast. But it also faced mounting criticism over alleged historical distortion and other political issues, and the production team was accused of criminal defamation over allegedly false statements. Despite those difficulties, the film passed 3.26 million admissions to rank fourth among Korean films released in 2026, prompting the producer to organize the events as a gesture of thanks to audiences.

The first event, a ticket voucher giveaway marking the fourth-place ranking, runs through Oct. 20. Participants who complete an application form will be entered into a drawing for two ticket vouchers each, with winners to be announced on Oct. 21.
A second event invites moviegoers to post proof of attendance. Those who book a ticket and share it on social media with a designated hashtag can enter a drawing for a limited-edition T-shirt produced in collaboration with HEIGHTS. Entries are accepted through Nov. 1, and winners will be announced on Nov. 2. Further details are available on Hive Media Corp's official social media accounts.
