Married at First Sight Mzansi star Nompumelelo Sobopha has broken her silence on what she describes as an overwhelming atmosphere of pressure around physical closeness during her time on the reality show. Appearing on the Success Unscripted Podcast on 14 October 2026, she laid out a series of shocking claims that have left viewers deeply unsettled.
Sobopha said the trouble began almost immediately after saying her vows. Within just two hours of the wedding, husband Hlulani Ngobeni was already raising the subject of the bedroom.
The following morning, she added, Ngobeni's family phoned him for an update on his new life, asking what his wife did for a living, only for him to admit he had no idea.

Pastor X's controversial list
The pressure did not stop at Ngobeni. Sobopha claimed that one of the show's experts, Pastor X, drew up a list of what each spouse needed from the other, placing sex at the top of what Hlulani required. Her response was firm. "It's not gonna happen."
She also pointed out that footage aired on the show misrepresented her reaction to that moment.
"The statement that was made before I got up was edited out," she said, arguing the context around the pressure was stripped from the broadcast.

Period revelation and husband's reaction
Perhaps the most startling part of Sobopha's account involved her menstrual cycle, which she says began the day after the wedding. She claims an expert then approached her with an offer to chemically halt her period so she could enjoy her honeymoon. However, she turned it down.
When she informed Ngobeni about her period, his reaction shocked both her and those watching the podcast interview.
"The first thing he says to me is, 'Oh my God, don't get your blood on me,'" she revealed.
Sobopha also addressed claims of body-shaming, saying Ngobeni would return home and stare at her without engaging meaningfully, while she was expected to handle all the household duties. She further noted that she had already shared her past relationship trauma with him privately, making his apparent surprise when she raised it publicly all the more frustrating.
Viewers responding to the podcast have praised Sobopha, who was initially painted as the villain of the cast. for holding her ground and are now calling on the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa to investigate the show over what they describe as enabled abuse.
