The New Delhi Municipal Corporation on Thursday announced that the Central Park at Connaught Place would remain closed on Friday and Saturday for “administrative reasons”, ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party’s scheduled “Lehra Do Tiranga” march there on Friday.
The move came hours after Delhi High Court declined to pass an order preventing the CJP from holding the protest at the park.
The court recorded Delhi Police’s assurance that it would take all possible measures in accordance with the law to regulate the gathering and maintain order.
In a statement, Delhi Police appealed to protesters and citizens not to join assemblies in contravention of provisions under Section 163 of the BNSS already in vogue.
“It may be noted that contravention of provisions of Section 163 BNSS will attract suitable legal action against the violators. They are also appealed not to disturb the peace and tranquillity prevailing in the area and disturb the business activities, as apprehended by the business community and traders,” the Delhi Police statement said.
Soon after the civic body’s appeal, CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke posted on X: “If we
announce 100 places, will Narendra Modi shut down all 100 places?”
The police, however, said it could allow a group of selected persons to carry the Tricolour and sing the national anthem at a suitable place.
