Key Facts
- The Selic wager stays front and centre Brazil’s benchmark interest rate sits at 13.75% after September’s quarter-point cut, and Polymarket traders put the probability at 86% to another 25-basis-point reduction at the 3-4 November Copom meeting.
- Brazil is on holiday today Our Lady of Aparecida Day shuts most local institutions, meaning B3’s cash equity market is closed and there is no domestic trading session to open or price.
- The only Brazilian item on the calendar is the BCB Focus readout due at 8:25 am BRT, a weekly survey of market expectations for inflation, growth and the Selic that can nudge rate bets even with the exchange shut.
- Inflation expectations remain the uncomfortable thread the Focus survey’s cited median puts 2026 inflation at 5.01%, far above the 3% target centre, which is why the final cut of the cycle is being debated so fiercely.
- Regional and US holidays thin the tape too Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay all observe public holidays (Mexico is open), so the Latin American complex is broadly quiet and B3 positioning will mostly reset on Tuesday.
Today’s Focus
Brazil’s B3 exchange is closed today for the Our Lady of Aparecida public holiday, so there is no pre-market open to call in the usual sense. The live board above shows Friday’s settled levels, and the real work today is about forward positioning for Tuesday and the next Copom decision.
The single domestic item that matters is the BCB Focus Market Readout at 8:25 am BRT. This weekly central-bank survey will update market expectations for inflation and the Selic, and any shift in the 2026 inflation median — last cited at 5.01% — could move how traders price the November meeting.
Polymarket traders currently give an 86% chance to a 25-basis-point cut at the November Copom gathering, with only a 9% chance of no change. The debate is whether inflation still running far above target lets the central bank deliver that final ease toward 13.50% by December.
With no B3 cash session, no corporate earnings and no confirmed ex-dividend dates today, the real question is whether Tuesday’s open sees the Ibovespa — Brazil’s main stock index — defend the 209,000 level that put it right at its 52-week high. The holiday simply pauses that test.
What matters today. The Focus readout is the only Brazilian data point today, and it will set the tone for whether traders keep leaning toward one more Selic cut in November.

01 The setup in one read
Brazil’s B3 exchange — the São Paulo stock market — is closed today for the Our Lady of Aparecida public holiday, so there is no cash session and no opening bell to trade. The live market board above shows Friday’s settled prices, with the Ibovespa, Brazil’s main share index, sitting right at its 52-week high.
That leaves the day’s work to forward positioning and the one Brazilian data point that still lands: the Central Bank’s Focus survey at 8:25 am BRT. This weekly poll of professional forecasters updates expectations for inflation, growth and the Selic, Brazil’s benchmark interest rate.
Polymarket traders currently price an 86% chance that the central bank lowers the Selic by another quarter point at its 3-4 November meeting, taking the rate from 13.75% to 13.50%. The lingering question is whether inflation still running near 5% — against a 3% target — lets that final cut happen.
Most of Latin America is also on holiday today, with Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay observing national dates (Mexico is open). So the whole regional complex is quiet, and Tuesday’s open will be the first real test of whether Brazilian assets can hold their recent strength.
Assessment — Holiday pause, but the rate debate simmers MEDIUM
With B3 shut for Our Lady of Aparecida Day, there is no cash open to shape, but the rate story does not sleep. The 86% probability of a November quarter-point cut is a strong market signal, yet the 5.01% expected inflation figure keeps the decision genuinely contested.
The variable to watch is whether today’s Focus readout shows inflation expectations ticking higher or sticking near 5%, because that determines how comfortable the central bank can be with delivering the final cut toward a 13.50% Selic.

| B3 cash equities | Closed Friday | — | No session — Our Lady of Aparecida holiday |

Because B3 is closed, there is no indicated direction or opening print to quote. The most useful guide is the board above, which shows Friday’s settled levels and the real little changed against the dollar.
The only live instrument with a Brazilian catalyst today is the DI rates complex through expectations, not trading. The Focus readout at 8:25 am BRT is the one event that can shift the narrative for Tuesday.

03 On the B3 radar today — a holiday, one survey, no earnings
| Item | When | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| BCB Focus Market Readout | 8:25 am BRT | Updates inflation and Selic expectations — the only domestic macro input today |
| Our Lady of Aparecida Day | All day | B3 cash market closed; no trading session |
| Regional holidays | All day | Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay also shut — Latin tape broadly thin |
| Copom positioning | All day | 86% priced for a quarter-point cut in November; watch for any shift |
Today’s B3 radar is deliberately short, because the exchange is closed and no company events are confirmed. The Focus survey is the only item that could change how traders think about Brazilian rates.
For foreign readers, the Focus readout is a weekly survey the central bank publishes with market forecasts for the Selic, inflation and GDP. It is not a policy decision, but it often reveals whether the mood among forecasters is shifting.
04 Copom and the macro backdrop
The Selic has travelled from a much higher level to 13.75% after September’s quarter-point cut, the fifth in a row, and the forward question is whether it reaches 13.50% in November or takes a longer pause. Prediction markets see an 86% probability of that cut, with 9% for no change and 2% for a larger cut.
Friday’s data ran hot. IBGE, Brazil’s statistics agency, reported September IPCA inflation of 0.82% on the month. That took the 12-month rate to 4.58%, against a market forecast of about 4.5% and 4.22% a month earlier (a seasonally adjusted series shows 0.88%). In the United States, the University of Michigan survey put one-year inflation expectations at 4.7% (previous 4.6%) and five-year expectations at 3.5% (previous 3.4%), which keeps hopes for faster global rate cuts in check.
The uncomfortable part is inflation. The Focus survey’s latest cited median puts 2026 consumer-price inflation at 5.01%, comfortably above the 3% target centre and the 4.50% upper tolerance band.
That tension matters for foreign investors because Brazil offers one of the highest real interest rates in emerging markets. Every quarter-point removed from the Selic narrows that carry, which is why the real — Brazil’s currency — is so sensitive to the November decision.
The Focus readout today could confirm whether forecasters still expect a year-end Selic of 13.50% and whether inflation expectations are drifting. That is the macro backdrop that will greet Tuesday’s B3 open.
05 Corporate stories to watch today
There are no confirmed earnings reports, ex-dividend dates or material corporate events on today’s B3 calendar. The holiday removes the usual company-specific catalysts.
That does not mean the corporate tape is irrelevant. Friday’s standout moves — particularly the sharp rise in low-priced growth names such as Magazine Luiza, which trades as MGLU3 on B3 — will be tested on Tuesday when investors decide whether the buying was positioning or a genuine shift.
Friday’s turnover leader, Petrobras preferred shares (PETR4), will also matter for the reopen. It is one of the liquid names that global funds use to express views on Brazil.
For now, the corporate story is a pause. The better read is to prepare for Tuesday’s open, when the names that surged into the 52-week high will need fresh buyers to hold their gains.
06 The levels to watch at the open
Because B3 is closed, the levels that matter are forward-looking. For the Ibovespa, the board shows the index sitting exactly at its 52-week high, which makes the 209,000 area the psychological line to defend on Tuesday.
For the real, the key reference is the year-end dollar forecast of R$5.20 in the Focus survey. That is the level market forecasters anchor to, and any shift in it would signal a broader repricing of Brazilian assets.
In the rates market, the story is the November meeting itself. An 86% probability of a cut means the market has largely committed to 13.50%, and only a hawkish surprise in today’s Focus readout would challenge that.
So the real open to watch is Tuesday’s. If global conditions hold and the Focus survey stays benign, the Ibovespa’s attempt to extend beyond its 52-week high will be the first trade of the week.
07 What to watch
- BCB Focus readout, 8:25 am BRT: Any shift in the 2026 inflation median near 5.01% or the year-end Selic expectation could alter November rate-cut odds.
- Copom pricing for 3-4 November: The 86% probability of a quarter-point cut is high; if it drifts, the real and DI futures will be the first to react on Tuesday.
- Tuesday’s B3 reopen: Watch whether the Ibovespa can hold the 209,000 area after Friday’s rally into a 52-week high.
- Global oil and risk tone: Houthi-related supply worries are lifting crude, which could support Petrobras and Brazilian terms of trade when trading resumes.

What Prediction Markets Say
Polymarket traders give an 86.5% chance that Brazil’s central bank cuts the Selic by 25 basis points at its November decision, with 9.0% on no change and 2.1% on a cut of 50 basis points or more (US$50,444 traded). Prices as of 11:02 pm ET on 11 October 2026. These are real-money bets, not polls; Kalshi, the other platform we track, is regulated in the US by the CFTC.
Why we show this: prediction markets turn real-money bets into a live probability that moves within minutes of the news, which is why investors, campaigns and newsrooms in the United States now follow them closely. We show them next to polls and official results, never instead of them.

What is the Copom decision traders are watching?
Copom is Brazil’s central bank rate-setting committee. It next meets on 3-4 November, and traders price an 86% chance it lowers the Selic from 13.75% to 13.50%.
What is the Focus survey and why does it matter?
The Focus readout is a weekly central-bank survey of market forecasts for inflation, growth and interest rates. Today’s edition at 8:25 am BRT is the only Brazilian macro item of the day.
When will Brazilian markets next trade?
